Matahari Department Store Once Again Toned Up Jakarta Fashion Week 2018

Matahari Department Store (“Matahari”) is supporting Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2018, which is held in Senayan City, Jakarta. This is the fifth year that Matahari has joined this annual grand event, which is followed by many fashionistas in Indonesia. Reflecting Matahari’s commitment to the fashion industry in Indonesia, Matahari once again put on shows of the best collections from the next generation of Indonesian designers, on two different themes: Rocks & Fun (today) and Denim Motion (22 October 2017).

Jakarta Fashion Week 2018 was held in October, which was also the month of Matahari’s 59th Anniversary. At the event, Matahari introduced the new collection from the collaboration between Nevada and Disney, with a "Minnie Rocks the Dots” theme. Celebrating the fashionable Minnie Mouse and her iconic polka dots, Matahari shoppers will enjoy a special range of Minnie-inspired products for Disney fans of all ages.

“Disney stories and characters resonate with consumers of all ages. This collaboration with Matahari brings Indonesian families a little closer to their favourite Disney, Marvel and Star Wars stories every day. We are excited to work with Matahari, as we continue to build connections with Indonesian fans across this vibrant country,” said Herry Salim, Country Manager, The Walt Disney Company Indonesia.

Matahari and The Walt Disney Company South Asia announced their collaboration on 11 October 2017 and ready to give an immersive Disney-branded shopping experience to Indonesians across all of Matahari’s stores nationwide.

Christian Kurnia, Merchandising, Marketing & Store Operation Director of PT Matahari Department Store Tbk added, “This collaboration represents Matahari’s commitment to always give a more exciting shopping experience and to make its loyal customers “Feel Good”. Therefore, Matahari is collaborating with Disney as one of its partners to indulge its customers by featuring well-known characters in Indonesia for the whole family.”

On Tuesday, 24 October 2017, Matahari invited 20 orphans aged 12-15 years old from Islamic Village Orphanage and Abhimata Orphanage as special guests at the fashion show presenting the results of the collaboration between Matahari and Disney. At this event, Matahari involved the all the girls from both orphanages as models for the Minnie Rocks The Dots collection alongside professional models and the Minnie character. Matahari took this opportunity, which coincided with its 59th anniversary, to introduce its new “Feel Good” tagline and make the dreams of 20 orphans come true by inviting them to reunite with  their favourite character, Minnie, in Hong Kong. This dream journey is fully covered by Matahari in the hope that they will experience first-hand the atmosphere in the fairytale land they dreamed of.

ROCKS MEET FUN
Very fun, edgy, strong, and pretty.
Fashion Tent – Tuesday, 24 October 2017, time 05:30 PM

Matahari's collection for the fashion show at the Tent was divided into two parts. The first sequence showed a rock & roll feminine theme, presenting clothes with  rock & roll nuances with feminine touches such as a hairdo enhanced with a  red rose.

Black and red dominated this rock & roll collection. Details such as a printed rock t-shirt, a top with a cut-out neckline, a tartan pattern, an asymmetric skirt with a buckle, a bomber jacket, and a mesh top coloured this collection.

A strong and tough female figure, yet one who still has a feminine side, is the impression that we want to establish and show for Indonesian women today.

In the second sequence, Matahari presented its collection from the collaboration with Disney, “Minnie Rocks The Dots”.  This fun and playful collection, which depicts Minnie Mouse characters, was showcased in ready-to-wear clothes for lively, energetic, playful and fun girls. Colours such as red, black, navy blue, baby pink, and white dominate this collection, while Minnie Mouse’s adorable and iconic polka dot motif printed in the details of each piece make it interesting.
